TNR Turkey Trot 5K Run — $10,000 for LUM

2014-12-18 TurkeyTrotMediaEvent 004 (3)

At a recent ceremony, Travis and Tammy Butts, owners of Tri-N-Run, presented Joe Micon, LUM executive director with a check for $10,000 from the Turkey Trot 5K Run 2014. According to Micon, the Turkey Trot proceeds will be used to support LUM programs including the LUM After School Program, 5th Quarter Summer Learning Program and the LUM Camp. To see the presentation, click below:

At the crack of dawn on Thanksgiving morning, close to 600 started their holiday off on the right foot by joining in on the Annual Tri-N-Run Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk at the Lafayette Golf Course. The freezing temperatures and intermittent snow flurries did not stop these runners from showing up and supporting LUM. Runners, walkers, babies in strollers, and dogs all took part in this wonderful event.

Hundreds of dedicated runners participated to support LUM, including Lafayette City Clerk, Cindy Murray; McCutcheon & Harrison High runners; and Tippecanoe School Corporation Superintendent, Dr. Scott Hanback and his family.

Thank you to the Tri-N-Run team, Midwest Rentals, all of the runners and sponsors for making this possible.

Thanksgiving Recap 2014

2014-11-27 ThanksgivingDay 366 (2)The Lafayette Urban Ministry Annual Community Thanksgiving Celebration was a spectacular success. More than 800 meals were served — including 80 turkeys and 200 pies. It takes over two months of planning, over 160 volunteers and more than $10,000 in donations to made it happen.

The meal was a delicious Thanksgiving feast but more importantly it brought together the entire community. Thanks to Susan Brouillette, 2014-11-27 ThanksgivingDay 331 (2)who directed the event; and Sandra Dukes and James Bishops, who headed up the kitchen crew.

LUM is especially grateful to Central Presbyterian church for use of their facilities as well as Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski, West Lafayette Mayor John Dennis (pictured left) & Indiana State Representative Sheila Klinker for serving our guests. A special thanks also to all who donated food and gave financial support. It was a magical community event and a wonderful community Thanksgiving holiday celebration for all.

Dear Friends:

Since 1986, the Lafayette Urban Ministry has hosted the Greater Lafayette Community Thanksgiving Celebration. It’s been a time for members of our community to come together to share food, warm fellowship, and fun. Held on Thanksgiving Day at Central Presbyterian Church, the Greater Lafayette Community Thanksgiving Celebration is one of our community’s most valued holiday traditions.

Community Thanksgiving is for everyone. Participants gather in warm fellowship to enjoy good food in festive surroundings. It’s a chance for us all to give thanks for our community’s many blessings. And it’s a place where all are welcome.

Last year, we served 800 Thanksgiving meals with all the trimmings. We will serve at least that many people again this year. To do so will cost LUM $8,000. I hope you will consider sharing a cash gift to help underwrite the cost of this year’s celebration

A gift of $50, $100, $250, $500, $1000 or more, will assure that no one in our community will have to go without a generous holiday meal, or someone to share it with, on Thanksgiving Day.

Every donation is helpful and greatly appreciated. I hope we can count on your help. And I hope you’ll consider joining us on Thanksgiving Day!
