Ivy Tech Professional Internships at LUM

ivytechintern Samantha Hardebeck is the new LUM After School Program Intern with responsibilities for assisting the program director with the implementation of the program.

Samantha is from Frankfort, Indiana. She is a student at Ivy Tech Community College in the School of Liberal Arts & Sciences. Samantha is in the Human Services program focusing on child psychology.

After graduation, Samantha  plans on being pre-school teacher.

 


ivytechintern2Vivian Kuo is the new LUM Immigration Clinic Intern with additional responsibility with the Tax Assistance and Good Samaritan Programs.

She was born in Taiwan and is from Seattle, Washington. Vivian is a psychology major at Purdue University and taking classes at Ivy Tech Community College in the Human Services program.

After graduation from Purdue, Vivian plans on pursuing a doctorate in clinical psychology and a career in family and relationship therapy.

It is with mixed emotions that the LUM staff says “farewell” and “well done” to our fabulously talented and hardworking interns – Amanda Bajzatt, Katherine Brandes, Evan Guse, Jashay Johnson-Martin, Rebekah Niedner, & Brittany Rooze. LUM has truly been blessed to have 6 interns working with various programs since January 2013. As many can relate, the time with our interns has flown by.

To celebrate the LUM interns were invited to an appreciation party hosted by all of the LUM staff — and cake. All interns will be graduating soon and LUM wishes them very well. Each of them used their unique talents to make LUM better.

So – Thank you, Congratulations, and Farewell (for now) – to Amanda, Katie, Evan, ‘Shay, Rebekah, and Brittany.

Meet the LUM Interns — Katherine Brandes

Meet the LUM Interns — Katherine Brandes

Katherine Brandes is from Batesville, Indiana and is an Ivy Tech (Lafayette) undergraduate in the Human Services Department.

As a LUM Intern, Katie is working with the After School Program as a tutor and bus driver. In addition to her studies at Ivy Tech and 2013-03-20 ASP_Shelly 065 (2)internship with LUM, she works as a mental health technician at the Wabash Alliance Elmwood Group Home.

After graduating in May 2013 with an associate’s degree in applied science, Katie will continue her studies at IU East in Richmond pursuing a bachelor’s and Master’s degree in social work. Her dream job would be to either work with the elderly or work for Adult Protective Services.

Evan Guse is a communications major with a concentration in human relations and minors in religious studies and Jewish studies in the Brian Lamb School of Communications at Purdue University (West Lafayette). He is from Columbus, Indiana and a member of Fairway Cooperative. At Fairway Cooperative, Evan has held many leadership roles. As a LUM Intern, he is assisting in all aspects of social media and marketing.

After graduation in August 2013 with a BA in communications, Evan will attend Asbury Theological Seminary (Wilmore, Kentucky) pursuing a Master of Divinity degree. His dream job is to be the teaching pastor of a thriving church and “lead a congregation made up of people who are hungry to know God at a deeper level and are eager to share that love with others.” Evan is also going to be married in May 2013.

Meet the LUM Interns — Rebekah Niedner

Meet the LUM Interns — Rebekah Niedner

Rebekah Niedner is from Valparaiso  Indiana and is a student in the Graduate School of Social Work at Indiana University – Indianapolis pursuing a Master of Social Work degree with a concentration in Leadership. Rebekah has a BSW in Social Work and BA in Spanish from Indiana University – Bloomington.

As a LUM Intern, Rebekah is working as an advocate and counselor with the Good Samaritan Program, ID Clinic, and Case Management; and is assisting with the LUM Good Samaritan Fund Follies program. In addition to her studies at IU and internship with LUM, Rebekah works as a paraprofessional at a local public middle school.  Rebekah also enjoys staying in shape doing Zumba and cooking and eating healthy.

After graduation from IU in May 2014, Rebekah will be pursuing a career in social work. Rebekah someday wishes to be involved in community development working in a school environment educating students and families and collaborating with community agencies to develop strong individuals, strong families and a strong community.

Meet the LUM Interns — Amanda Bajzatt

Amanda Bajzatt is from Lafayette, Indiana and is an Ivy Tech (Lafayette) undergraduate majoring in Human Services in the Social Service Department.

As a LUM Intern, Amanda is working with the After School Program as a tutor and bus driver. In addition to her studies at Ivy Tech and internship with LUM, Amanda works as an administrative assistant at the Ivy Tech Corporate College.

After graduation from Ivy Tech in May 2013, Amanda will be pursuing a Bachelors and Master’s degree in Social Work at IUPUI. Amanda someday wishes to work in some capacity serving disabled American veterans.

Meet the LUM Interns — Jashay Johnson-Martin

Meet the LUM Interns — Jashay Johnson-Martin

Jashay Johnson-Martin is from South Bend, Indiana and is a Purdue undergraduate majoring in Human Services with a duel minor in Sociology and Organizational Leadership & Supervision.

As a LUM Intern, Jashay is working with Case Management, the Tax Assistance Program, and Achieve! Program. In addition to her studies at Purdue and internship with LUM, Jashay works as a youth program assistant at a local youth center.

After graduation in May 2013, Jashay will be attending graduate school to pursue a Master of Social Work (MSW), a master’s degree in the field of social work.
